Privacy Policy

Last updated November 3, 2026

Greenshelf helps you track the food you have so less of it goes to waste. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.

What we collect

Account information: your email address, display name and an encrypted password.

Kitchen data you enter: item names, brands, barcodes, quantities, expiration dates, notes, storage spaces, shopping lists and any photos you attach.

Usage history: when items are added, used or tossed, which powers your waste stats and shopping suggestions.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party ad trackers.

How we use it

To run the app: store your inventory, remind you before food expires, suggest recipes and build shopping suggestions.

To keep the service secure and fix problems.

To communicate with you about your account (for example, password resets).

Service providers

Supabase hosts our database, authentication and photo storage.

When you request recipe ideas, the names, quantities and dates of your items and your request text are sent to Anthropic, which provides the AI model. This data is used to generate your response and is not used to train models under our agreement.

When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts and, if needed, USDA FoodData Central to look up the product. No account information is sent with it.

Apple processes subscription payments. We never see your card details.

Shared households

If you share a household with others (a Greenshelf Plus feature), everyone in it can see and edit the household’s items, spaces and shopping list, and see each member’s display name.

Notifications

Expiration reminders are scheduled on your device. You can turn them off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account, which permanently removes your account and, unless you share a household with others, all of your kitchen data and photos. Residual backups are purged within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and California law), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children

Greenshelf is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted so each household can only read its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes and contact

We will notify you in the app of material changes to this policy.
